Randleman’s Caughron to Join Hospice of Randolph County

David Caughron

After 22 years as one of the organizers of Randleman’s NASCAR Day Festival and 19 years as Executive Director of the Randleman Chamber of Commerce, David Caughron is leaving his longtime post to join Hospice of Randolph County as their new Director of Marketing and Development.

Caughron has been an avid supporter of the Randleman community for years as well as being very active in Randolph County organizations and causes.

He served as charter President of the Randleman Jaycees and led his chapter as coordinator of the Empty Stocking Fund program for 10 years.

Caughron has been the co-founder and administrator of the Richard Petty-Randolph County Golf Classic for 22 years, which has raised over $250,000 for the NC Jaycee Burn Center and $300,000 for the Victory Junction Gang Camp.  He has served in past years on the Board of Directors for the Asheboro-Randolph Chamber of Commerce, the Randolph County Senior Adult Association Advisory Board for the Randleman Senior Center and the Randolph County Partnership for Children’s Success by 6 program for at-risk children.  He has also served on the Board for Hospice of Randolph County for the past 4 years.

David remains involved on the Board of the Randolph County Tourism Development Authority, in which he was appointed by the Randolph County Commissioners, and is a member and Chairman of Finance at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church in Randleman.  He also serves on community advisory boards for Randolph County Schools and Randolph Community College.

Recently, Caughron served as District #7690 Conference Chairman for Rotary as 365 business and community leaders from cental NC gathered in Myrtle Beach, SC for their year-end convention.  He received the Stuart Fountain Randolph Rotarian of the Year Award in 2009 for exemplary service to the Randolph Rotary Club, Rotary International and Randolph County.

“I am very excited to have this opportunity to join this first-class development team at Hospice,” states Caughron.  “As construction continues on the new state of-the-art Hospice Home, I am proud to be the newest member of this special care giving organization.  I look forward to this uplifting challenge as we face future endeavors of new facilities, additional services and continued quality care to our friends, families and neighbors in Randolph and surrounding counties dealing with life-threatening illnesses.”

Caughron has been very appreciative of the wonderful support he has had over the years from the Randleman community, the Chamber members and his own Board.  He plans to remain an active Chamber volunteer for the upcoming months to assist the organization with their plans for the 22nd Annual NASCAR Day Festival on October 23.

Chamber Board Vice-Chairman Bucky Jernigan will work with Caughron and serve as interim Director and Festival Chairman for this year’s event.

Board Chairman Jeff Freeman and the Chamber’s personnel committee are putting plans in action to accept applications through the Employment Security Commission in upcoming months to fill the vacancy at the Randleman office.

Urgent Need for Patient Volunteers!

ASHEBORO — Officials at Hospice of Randolph County say the organization urgently needs patient volunteers.

Volunteers who work with patients and families play a key role in the hospice experience, said Kathy Wright, HRC’s volunteer coordinator.

“Our volunteers provide companionship, emotional support and an extra hand to the patients and families we serve at Hospice of Randolph County. The love and care they give to these patients and families is indispensable,” she said.

Volunteer opportunities also exist for those interested in helping with special events or office work.

Those interested in volunteering are required to attend a special training series to learn more about the organization and their role.

The next volunteer training series will be held on Tuesday, July 13, and Thursday, July 15, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Lunch for both days as well as materials will be provided free of charge. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to work with patients. Volunteers can give as many or as few hours per month as their schedules allow.

Pre-registration is required for the training.

Register by the end of the day on Monday, July 12. Contact Kathy Wright at (336) 672-9300 or by email at kathy.wright@hospiceofrandolph.org to register.
